Servicemen of the FSVNG during the liberation of Mariupol | Ukraine 2022

Supporting the Donbass defense.

The Federal National Guard Troops Service of the Russian Federation (FSVNG or Rosgvardiya) is the national gendarmerie and internal military force of Russia. The FSVNG is considered part of Russia's overall military organization and one of its main objectives is to improve interoperability with other military/security forces through joint training and unified command. On April 13, the 36th Marine Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, blocked at the Ilyich Metallurgical Plant, attempted to break through, as a result of which some of the fighters entered the territory of the Azovstal industrial complex teaming up there with military personnel from the neo-nazi Azov regiment. More than 1,000 ukrainian marines were captured. At the end of April, Russia, FSVNG and the DPR, in connection with the capture of most of Mariupol, transferred some of the troops stationed there to other directions. Azovstal was regularly subjected to shelling and airstrikes. On May 16, 2022, all Ukrainian military personnel present at Azovstal surrendered, which marked the end of the battle of Mariupol. A total of 2,439 soldiers surrendered from the plant’s territory.
